Welcome to LodgingGuide's hospitality industry listings for the Curacao area.
Although the most established families in Curacao are of Dutch ancestry, immigrants from several dozen other nations, including Caribbean, Indian and Asian, make up Curacao culture. Tropical fruit is one of Curacao’s main industries, along with peanuts and aloe. Curacao is a little over 30 miles from the South American coast, and acquired its current wealth as a production capital for Venezuelan oil beginning in the early 20th century. The beaches are not as natural and pristine as those found on some of the other Caribbean islands, but they do host a more sophisticated brand of fun with their casinos and water activity vendors. The sight of oil tankers just off the shore also drives home the point that Curacao is becoming more urbanized. The islands of the Netherlands Antilles are, in contrast to the tropical, grassy and forested areas found on other Caribbean islands, more like the terrain of Arizona or southeastern California, arid and decorated with desert flora, and punctuated everywhere by old
Dutch windmills in constant motion, keeping the winds of change at bay.
